Some diseases of the intestines or colon maty require a segment to be removed and the remaining portions to be reconnected. This may be due to inflammation, infection or tumors. Conventional open surgery involves making a long cut to open the abdomen and perform the surgery. These wounds have a high risk of infections and later the wound can develop a hernia. Furthermore, conventional open surgery causes adhesions to develop inside the abdomen that can later causes intestinal blockages.
At ALSA we offer laparoscopic resection or removal of the diseased parts of the intestines or colon and reconnect the remaining ends. The laparoscopic view many times is much better than view offered by conventional open surgery. Patients are able to recover earlier and have lesser complications. Theses surgeries usually take 2-4 hours and recovery is 2-4 days depending on the type of surgery done.
