Recovery from Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Surgery

Recovery from Open Hernia Surgery

Recovery from open hernia surgery takes longer times, is more painful as compared to the laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery. Open hernia surgery involves incisions in the inguinal region that are larger and hence takes longer time in healing.

There are two types of Open hernia surgeries:
• A direct hernia
• An indirect hernia

Direct Inguinal Hernia Surgery

In direct inguinal hernia surgery there will be a hernia bulging out of the abdomen. The bulge is then pushed back into the abdomen during the open inguinal surgery.

Indirect Inguinal Hernia Surgery

Indirect inguinal hernia is the one in which the inguinal canal starts going down the inguinal canal. In this case, hernia sac is either tire off or absolutely removed from that region.
Open hernia surgery takes longer time in healing. Open hernia surgery is also more painful as compared to the laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery.

There are no specific instructions for diet to follow after the Open inguinal hernia surgery.
But some people feel poor appetite after getting the open inguinal hernia surgery.

Open inguinal hernia surgery will involve a long incision on the abdomen. That’s why it takes longer in the healing of that incision and also it can cause a scar on the abdomen.

Recovery from Laparoscopic Inguinal hernia surgery

Recovery from laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery is quick and it is also less painful as compared to the open inguinal hernia surgery.

Inguinal hernia surgery also ensures quick recovery and you can get back to work sooner. In this procedure, a thin laparoscope camera is inserted into your abdomen. This tiny and thin camera is used to visualize the inside of your abdomen and groin. Then a monitor is used to visualize the inside problem in your abdomen and groin. And then surgery is carried out. Inguinal hernia can be easily removed or repaired by laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery.
Laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery is better from the open hernia surgery as in this small incisions are used to remove hernia. Moreover, in this surgery two hernias on both sides can be easily removed by the small incision applied for removing that one hernia earlier.
